India’s humiliating drubbing against Pakistan in the final match of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 came as a shock for many Indian cricket enthusiasts. But that tournament is past now and the Men in Blue are currently in the Caribbean preparing for the series against West Indies. They will be competing in the series without a head coach, as Anil Kumble has resigned.
It is understood that Kumble had differences with Indian skipper Virat Kohli in terms of the approach. Kumble is an authoritarian who wanted the cricketers to follow his instructions properly. But that was not the case to be as the players refused to take 50 catches per day. He also wanted the team to follow a regimented lifestyle that is followed by Kumble himself. But the current generation of multi-tasking players refused to do that.
As per reports in NDTV, Kumble wanted India to bat first if they win the toss in the final match of ICC Champions Trophy 2017. But an adamant Kohli refused to hear any instructions by the coach, just like the rebel student who refuses to obey the instructions of a strict teacher. As expected, the Indian skipper decided to field first after winning the toss and the result lies ahead of us.
No student likes a strict teacher
After the team came back to the dressing room following the shameful drubbing, Kumble scolded the players. “Anil Kumble treated players like school kids,” revealed a source while speaking to NDTV. But it is only a master’s job to look after the betterment of his students. But Kohli & Co. were furious at Kumble.
As it turned out, his students were not very fond of their headmaster. The class monitor Virat Kohli had “reservations” with Kumble’s coaching methods and hence he stepped aside. Following his resignation, many former Indian cricketers are bashing the players, especially Virat Kohli, for his tantrums and ego.
