Aravinda de Silva set to return as Vice President of SLC

Former Sri Lankan cricketer and a legend of the game Aravinda de Silva is set to return to SLC as the vice-president. According to reports, SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala is making efforts to get his close ace make a comeback. Arvinda wasn’t much pleased with the appointment of Allan Donald as the bowling consultant for the team, just before the start of the champions trophy.
He offered resignation from his post of head of Cricket committee, citing personal reasons, back in the month of May. Aravinda will replace Jayantha Dharmadasa as the vice-president of SLC, as he has not attended any of the meetings since June. He recently slammed the whistle blowers, who went off record to say that the 2011 World Cup final was fixed. He insisted that people should come up with evidence. He also added that certain section of people have a huge grudge and hence the burnout.
“You can’t stop people talking when they have a grudge against certain people. One can say many things against them. But at the end of the day you need to come out and prove what you are saying. It’s fair that they should have all the proof needed,” Aravinda de Silva told mid-day yesterday, without taking any names. He added: “Obviously, it hurts. I think players make mistakes on the field and every time they do, they are likely to be accused of various things.”
Aravinda de Silva has represented Sri Lanka in 93 Test matches, scoring 6361 runs at an average of 42.97. He has 20 hundreds and 22 fifties to his name in Tests. In ODI’s, the batting great has scored 9284 runs at an average of 34.90, along with 11 centuries and 34 fifties. His tricky off-break earned him 135 international wickets, with a best of 4/30 in ODIs. The 51-year old is one of the most reputed Sri Lankan cricketer.
