There are a few things sportsmen can never forget, like their first game or receiving their maiden cap from a senior player. Rajasthan pacer Deepak Chahar made his debut for the Men in Blue on Tuesday and although the youngster was taken for a few runs during the initial Mohammad Shahzad hurricane, he did show some promise.

Chahar eventually scalped his first ODI wicket as well but got to bowl just four overs. He gave away 37 runs, most of which came against Shahzad who was playing the innings of his life. However, picking up the wicket of Gulbadin Naib ensured his day didn’t turn out to be a disaster. He also contributed with 12 crucial runs in the end with the willow.

Before the game began, the former Indian cricketer and current coach Ravi Shastri presented the youngster his maiden ODI cap. That certainly was a moment he will remember for a long time to come and to receive it from someone like Shastri made it even more special for him.

Here’s his tweet:

A game to remember for the ages

Although India entered this game with a handicapped side, fans were expecting them to see off Afghanistan. After bundling them out for 252 runs, people expected MS Dhoni’s men to chase the total down, but everyone was aware that this run chase was going to be tricky.

KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu put up a high-class batting rendition, announcing to the world that their bench strength is something the world should be wary of. At no point during their partnership, it felt like Afghanistan stands a chance in this game. But they had a fairytale script which almost turned out to be real.

Some quick wickets and a stoppage in the flow of runs got the Afghans back in the game. They even took the upper hand in the final few overs, but Ravindra Jadeja’s perseverance helped India gain a point. Once again, Asghar Afghan’s side gave us a clash that will be remembered for a long time to come.
