Afghanistan, in the current form, has a perfect chance to register their maiden win over Pakistan whom they will face for the first time in four years. Afghanistan handed big defeats to both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in their previous two matches and will be looking to continue their winning streak at the same venue. Pakistan, on the other hand, were decimated by the Indian team and could well continue their struggles against the Afghan team that possesses a quality spin attack.

1 – Number of wickets Mohammad Amir has taken in his last seven ODI matches. In these games, Amir bowled 51 overs and conceded 186 runs at an economy rate of 3.65. He failed to take a wicket in his previous four ODIs where he bowled 30 overs conceding 93 runs at 3.17.


1 – Pakistan’s loss in the previous game against India ended their winning streak of nine matches in the ODI format in the UAE. Pakistan’s last ODI defeat in this country came way back in 2015 against England. Since 2016, Pakistan played three ODIs against West Indies, five against Sri Lanka and one against Hong Kong and won all of them before losing to India.


3 – Afghanistan and Pakistan faced off on three occasions in international cricket; two times in ODIs and once in T20I. Pakistan were victorious by a hefty margin.


5 – Afghanistan have won their previous five ODI matches where they chased a total. In all those five matches, the Afghans were put into bat after their opponent won the toss.


9 – In their previous 11 ODIs, while bowling first, Pakistan have dismissed their opposition on nine instances. Pakistan ended up conceding a 300+ total only once in those 11 matches.


21.28 – Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan has a batting average of 21.28 in ODI format which is less than their no.1 bowler Rashid Khan who averages 21.97.


28.49 – Afghanistan spinners’ bowling strike-rate of 28.49 in ODI cricket since the Champions Trophy 2017 is the best for any team. (Min: 10 matches played).

Their average of 19.12 is also the highest for any team’s spinners. The Afghan spinners have collectively bagged 119 wickets in just 19 matches in these 15 months.
