The Australian cricket team registered a comprehensive win in the three-match ODI series against India by 2-0 as they emerged victorious in the second One Day International by 51 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It was again a Steve Smith show in Sydney as the right-hander smashed another scintillating century.

The toss went Aaron Finch‘s way and he elected to bat first. It was almost a repeat telecast of the first ODI as the Indian bowlers failed to take any wicket of the opposition in the first 20 overs. The Australian skipper Finch and David Warner stitched a remarkable opening stand of 142 runs in 22.5 overs. While Warner scored 83 runs off 77 deliveries, Finch added 60 runs to the scoreboard in 69 balls.

The pacer Mohammed Shami gave the first breakthrough to his side by taking the priced wicket of in-form opening batsman Finch. Warner also went back to the pavilion after getting run-out in the 26th over and the visitors were hoping for a comeback in the game. However, Steve Smith brilliantly anchored the innings and stitched a 100+ run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne.

The former Australia captain smashed 104 runs in just 64 deliveries while Marnus added 70 runs to the scoreboard. The finishing touch was provided by power-hitter Glenn Maxwell who repeated the heroics of the last game by playing a knock of 63 unbeaten off just 29 deliveries. Thus, India again had a humongous total of 390 on the board to chase.

Virat Kohli plays a sublime knock of 89

In reply, the Indian team had a poor start as they lost both their opening batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal within 9 overs and were reeling at 60-2. However, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli was there in the middle to stay and brilliantly anchored his innings to provide some hopes to the Indian fans.

Kohli along with Shreyas Iyer collected 93 runs and kept India in the hunt. However, Virat Kohli was once again left alone on the field thanks to Steve Smith’s brilliance which cut short Iyer’s knock. This was followed by Rahul and Virat stitching a partnership of 72 runs and the visitors, albeit briefly, made a comeback into the game. However, in the 34th over, Moises Henriques took a jaw-dropping catch at the short mid-wicket to put an end to Kohli’s remarkable knock.

After this, Hardik Pandya and Rahul tried to stabilise the innings but the latter lost his wicket in 44th over while playing at 76. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowler for hosts as he took a three-wicket haul while Adam Zampa and Pat Cummins had two each to their name. Thus, Australia comfortably registered a victory by a massive 51 runs.
