Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second Gillette one day international to be played at the Gabba in Brisbane. Australia has had a long summer with Hazlewood, Starc and Cummins who played the Ashes earlier this month. Hazlewood was the spearhead of the Australian bowling attack in absence of left-arm quick Mitchell Starc. Cummins played the first ODI at Melbourne along with Starc and debutante Andrew Tye, he will be rested for the second ODI as earlier told by skipper Steve Smith.

The tall lanky pacer Hazlewood was set to replace Pat Cummins before an illness has ruled him out. A lot of players have been hit by illness this summer, rather surprisingly. Tim Paine, Warner, Steve Smith and Patrick Cummins as well as England captain Joe Root and batsman James Vince, have all been affected by illness since Christmas. Hazlewood was ill with a virus yesterday, and today, after failing to recover, it was announced that he will return home to Sydney. Australia went down to England in the first one-day international due to a phenomenal inning from English opener Jason Roy.

The doors are open for Jhye Richardson

Western Australia’s pacer Jhye Richardson was named in the Australian squad after an impressive domestic season and a brilliant Big Bash League. The right arm quick will be handed his debut cap as he is the only remaining pacer in the squad to play along with Starc and Tye. The spin department will be headed by leg-spinner Adam Zampa. Richardson is a wonderful bowler who can swing the ball upfront and his exploits at the death will be valuable for Australia.

Warner yesterday said would be excellent for batting while still offering something for the quicks. “You’re always confident as an Australian batsman when you come and look at this wicket, that’s for sure,” Warner said.”It’s always got good bounce and carry for the bowlers as well.”

The twenty-one-year-old Richardson will want to make the most of his opportunity. He represented Australia in the T20 format in 2017 against Sri Lanka and this will be his first chance to feature in the 50-over format for his nation. Australia will be looking to make a comeback in the series whereas England will look to stamp their dominance over the hosts in the second ODI.
