Stump mic chatter has been one of the entertaining aspects so far in the ongoing Test series between Australia and India. After Tim Paine calling babysitter to Rishabh Pant on Day three of the MCG Test, it was time for the latter to give it back when the Australian captain came out to bat in the second innings. Pant termed Paine as the temporary captain while also adding that he knows only to talk and not bat.
Paine, earlier, had suggested his wicket-keeping counterpart to extend his Aussie holiday and play for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL). He also offered him a nice apartment and invited Pant for a dinner while also calling him a babysitter.
Pant, the 20-year-old, was definitely waiting on the fourth day for Paine to come out and was soon into his ears. “We’ve got a special guest today…..have you heard of a temporary captain ever ? You don’t need anything to get him out boys. He loves to talk, that’s the only thing he can do, only talking talking,” he was heard as saying through the stump mic.
Gould cautions Pant
However, the tag ‘temporary captain’ given by Rishabh Pant to Tim Paine was not cool according to Ian Gould. The on-field umpire was quick to pull up the Indian wicket-keeper over his comments after which not much was said to the batsman. Meanwhile, Paine didn’t pay much heed to the comments and concentrated on batting socring 26 runs during his 67-ball stay in the crease.

As far as the match is concerned, India are only a couple of wickets away from the famous victory at the MCG. Pat Cummins has been batting well and he denied them the glory on the fourth day as Australia ended the day on 258/8. It will be interesting to see if the rain intervenes on the final day to make things interesting.
