Former Pakistan player Tanvir Ahmed had some crucial advice for the new ODI captain, Babar Azam. Talking on his Youtube Channel the bowler congratulated the new skipper and also talked about the various challenges the 25-year-old will face.

The former player advised Babar Azam to improve his personality. Being on the subject, he said it is important for the newly appointed captain to improve his English and also his dressing sense. He pointed out that as a captain, he will have to go on various channels and give interviews.

“Try to improve your personality. By personality, I mean a person can change his dressing sense. Babar Azam also needs to improve his English, which is necessary. Whenever someone becomes a captain, he has to talk during the toss and post-match presentation. Plus, he will also give interviews on various channels when he tours different countries,” Tanvir Ahmed said on his Youtube channel.

Babar Azam also needs to be mentally strong: Tanvir Ahmed

The former cricketers pointed out the importance of being a perfect example for other players in the side. He emphasised that a captain has to maintain high fitness levels.

“A leader needs to be punctual and organised as the players follow the captain. He should also maintain his fitness level, because if the captain himself isn’t fit, then he can’t advise other players on improving their fitness,” he said.

Tanvir also pointed out that the new captain’s mental strength will also be seen. He rightly said that a little bit dip in form will invite a lot of criticism but that captain has to gracefully handle everything.

“It remains to be seen how Babar leads the team. He needs to be mentally strong as even a slight dip in performance as captain will invite a lot of criticism from media. So he will have to tolerate the criticism and not react to it. If he reacts, then things will get very difficult for him,” he added.

Tanvir Ahmed also said that it is a great achievement for the Lahore-born batsman as he has become the skipper of the national team after playing for the side for only five years.

“Captaincy isn’t an easy job. However, I am happy for Babar as he has become captain after only five years since making his debut in 2015. If any player becomes a captain in such a short period of time, then it is an extraordinary achievement for him,” Ahmed concluded.

Tanvir Ahmed played five Tests in his career along with two ODIs and one T20I. He has picked up 17, 2 and 1 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively.
