Bangladesh have roped in Nurul Hasan Sohan as a concussion substitute of an injured Yasir Ali for the rest of the opening Test in Chattogram. In the penultimate ball of the 30th over during the Tigers’ second innings, Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi hit Yasir on the side of the helmet with a vicious bouncer. Yasir, in an attempt to duck, took his eyes of the ball.

Immediately, the physio came out to take a look at Yasir, who seemed to be in a bit of discomfort. A couple of overs later, Yasir, who made his international debut in the ongoing game, walked off the park. Mehidy Hasan Miraz came out to join the in-form Liton Das in the middle. Thereafter, it was learned that Nurul Hasan was drafted in as a replacement for the 25-year-old Yasir.

Nurul Hasan won’t keep wickets

However, despite being a wicketkeeper, Nurul won’t be keeping wickets since Yasir Ali wasn’t a keeper. The Dinajpur-born Liton Das will continue donning the wicketkeeper’s gloves. Yasir has been included in Bangladesh squads across formats plenty of times, but finding a place in the eleven started becoming a far cry for him. However, the youngster, eventually, got an opportunity.

In the first innings of the Chattogram Test, he started with a four before an-dipper from Hasan Ali rattled his woodwork. In the second innings, Yasir looked determined to get a big score under his belt. With Bangladesh under pressure, he came to bat at No.6 and put his head down. He was involved in a handy partnership with Das, who made a century in the first innings.

When Yasir went back to the pavilion, he was batting on 36 with six fours. Nurul Hasan, in the meantime, came to bat after Sajid Khan cleaned up Mehidy Hasan in the 43rd over. Nurul Hasan has played three Tests so far, scoring 115 runs at an average of 19.16 with a top score of 64.

The second and final Test of the two-match series is scheduled to begin on Saturday, December 4 at the renowned Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. It remains to be seen if Yasir Ali can recover in time for the last game of the series.
