The suspension of Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has created a huge uproar. While there has been evident criticism for the all-rounder, he has also managed to garner support from the fans. And more recently, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, also stated that they will stand by the cricketer. While she accepted that Shakib made a mistake, she even hoped that he will learn and bounce back as a wiser player.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), earlier, slapped Shakib will a two-year backdated suspension for his failure to report corrupt approaches. Thus, it implies that the veteran will be away from a game till 29 October 2020. Shakib Al Hasan has already accepted all the charges that were put against him and seemed disappointed to be away from the game that he loves so much. This ban will prove to be quite costly for the 32-year-old. Not only will he miss the upcoming IPL season but will not be a part of the T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia as well.

It is clear that Shakib Al Hasan has made a mistake

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated that it is quite clear that Shakib Al Hasan made a mistake. She even added that he realised the same. Furthermore, she said that there isn’t much the government can do about this issue. But, she affirmed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will stand by Shakib Al Hasan in this turbulent time.

“It’s clear that Shakib has made a mistake and he’s realised that,” Hasina was quoted as saying by bdnews24.com. “There’s nothing much the government can do about the ICC’s decision but BCB will stand by him,” she added.

The BCB has also extended its support to Shakib Al Hasan. They said that the doors will be open for the all-rounder’s return once his ban period ends. “We hope he will come back as a better and wiser cricketer and serve Bangladesh for many more years when his sanction will be over. During the suspension, the BCB will continue to support his efforts at returning to cricket. The BCB respects the ICC’s decision and shares similar sentiments against corruption in cricket,” BCB said in a statement.
