Bangladesh took a winning lead of 2-0 in the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe following a close 4-run win on Tuesday. Tamim Iqbal returned to big scores for Bangladesh as he scored 158 from only 136 balls with 20 fours and 3 sixes as Bangladesh posted 322/8 in their 50 overs. Zimbabwe kept losing wickets like in the last match despite a gritty 70-ball 51 from Tinase Kamunhukamwe.
Wesley Madhevere (52) and Sikandar Raza (66) scored fifties at a good pace but the required run rate crossed 11 before the last 10 overs. An unbeaten 28-ball 55 from Donald Tiripano saw Zimbabwe scoring 72 runs in the last 5 overs when they required 77 runs. Tiripano smashed back to back sixes when Zimbabwe needed 18 from four balls but could only earn a single on the final two balls.

The two teams clashed in ten bilateral ODI series on Bangladesh soil thus far but Zimbabwe managed to win only one – The first-ever series between these two in Bangladesh in 2001 by 3-0 margin. Bangladesh also won all the four bilateral ODI series they played against Zimbabwe since the start of 2014.
15 – Bangladesh has won all the 15 ODI matches they played against Zimbabwe since the start of 2014. They have also won their last 17 matches in the ODI format at home against Zimbabwe.
A narrow win for Bangladesh:
4 – Only twice Bangladesh has won an ODI match by fewer than 4 runs – by 3 runs vs New Zealand in 2010 Dhaka ODI and vs Afghanistan in 2018 Asia Cup.
This 4-run win is also the narrowest ODI win for Bangladesh in terms of runs against Zimbabwe. The previous narrowest ODI win over Zimbabwe was by 8 runs in the 2004 Harare ODI.

158 – Tamim Iqbal’s 158 is now the highest ODI individual score for Bangladesh surpassing his own 154 during the 2009 Bulawayo ODI also against Zimbabwe. No player from Bangladesh barring Tamim has recorded a 150+ score in ODI cricket.

Tiripano’s maiden fifty:
26 – The 26-ball half-century by Donald Tiripano is now the joint-fastest ODI fifty for Zimbabwe against Bangladesh. Elton Chigumbura also recorded a 26-ball ODI fifty against Bangladesh for Zimbabwe during the 2009 Bulawayo ODI. This is also the maiden fifty for Tiripano in List A cricket.
Four players shine with the bat for Zimbabwe:
4 – As many as four players scored half-centuries in this match for Zimbabwe; the joint-most 50+ scores in an ODI for them. They had four players scoring fifties during the 1992 Harare ODI against Zimbabwe.
3 – Zimbabwe’s innings is only the 9th during an ODI chase where as many as four players scored 50+ runs. Only three of them including Zimbabwe ended up on the losing side – Pakistan vs England during the 2005 Lahore ODI and England vs India during the 2017 Cuttack ODI.
An expensive spell from Al-Amin:
85 – The 85 runs conceded by Al-Amin Hossain in this game are now the most runs conceded by a Bangladesh player during a home ODI. The previous most was 82 runs by Mohammad Rafique also against Zimbabwe during the 2001 Dhaka ODI. As many as three players before Al-Amin conceded 85+ runs in an ODI game on Bangladesh soil, but all the three during the ODI matches between India and Pakistan.
Milestones for Al-Amin and Rahim:
150 – The wicket of Tinotenda Mutombodzi in the last over of the match was Al-Amin Hossain’s 150th wicket in List A cricket. Al-Amin claimed 150 wickets in only 97 matches in List A format.
3018 – Mushfiqur Rahim completed 3000 runs in ODI cricket on Bangladesh soil with the 55-run knock on Tuesday. He is now only the 2nd player after Tamim Iqbal (3442) with 3000+ ODI runs in Bangladesh.
