In the 26th match of the Big Bash League, Brisbane Heat is taking on Melbourne Renegades. The home team batted first to post a below-par score of 144 runs in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Brendon McCullum was the top-scorer for Brisbane as he scored 50 runs in 47 balls. Ben Cutting tried his best by scoring a brisk 20 runs off just 10 balls, Usman Khan Shinwari picked three wickets to derail the innings.
145 was not a challenging target on this pitch and Melbourne Renegades seemed to be the favorites. To have a fighting chance, Brisbane Heat needed to pick some early wickets. James Pattinson almost provided the breakthrough in the first over itself as Marcus Harris mistimed a shot. The fast bowler bowled a short ball but Harris tried to play a pull shot.
Eventually, he mistimed the shot and ball went high in the air instead of the top edge. The ball had height but it lacked distance as two fielders were converging to complete the catch. Ben Cutting got into a good position to take the catch just outside the 30-yard circle. The Australian all-rounder seemed to be in control as he tried reverse cup approach to take the catch.
Ben Cutting gets injured
While Ben Cutting seemed destined to take the catch but ball burst out of his hands and it hit him around the nose to cause an injury. When Cutting threw the ball, commentators thought he is celebrating as they were laughing. Then they realized that the fielder has thrown out the ball so they were unsure if it was a legitimate catch. It seemed that the ball had hit him on his head which raised an injury concern.
There was a lot of bleeding around the nose which made the injury look really dangerous. There was a debate if Cutting had the ball under his control but TV umpire decided that Harris was not out. He was later back on the field after having five stitches and passing the concussion test.
