The two teams, Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat, which faced in the opening game of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season will once again lock horns on Monday. The game is set to take place at the Sydney Showground Stadium. The Thunder emerged victorious last time around thanks to their smart play at The Gabba and would be looking to complete the double on the Chris Lynn-led side.
The Thunder are currently at the fourth position in the points table and are coming off a loss at the same venue at the hands of Melbourne Stars. On the other hand, Lynn smashed 88 along with Max Bryant’s 65 to help the Heat register their second win of the season in five matches. This is a crucial game for both the sides, especially the Brisbane based franchise, to keep up with the top three teams in the table.
Pitch and Conditions
The Stars chased down 143 in the last over of the innings in the previous and the only game played at the venue. It still seems to be the bat first pitch and a score around 155-1q60 should be defendable. As far as the weather is concerned, the forecast is not promising with the dark clouds likely to hover for the whole day. However, the showers are predicted around 9 PM and we might witness a shortened game.
Team Combination
Sydney Thunder
The Sydney Thunder have included Liam Bowe and Gurinder Sandhu in the 13-man squad for this match. Nathan McAndrew has been left out and Sandhu is expected to replace him in the playing XI. The rest of the line-up is expected be same with the onus of run-scoring on Khawaja and the skipper Ferguson. Alex Hales has blown hot and cold so far and should start performing soon on a consistent basis.
The likes of Morris and Daniel Sams have fared decently with the ball while the spinners Chris Green and Arjun Nair have immensely impressed.
Probable XI: Alex Hales, Usman Khawaja, Callum Ferguson (C), Matthew Gilkes (WK), Alex Ross, Chris Morris, Daniel Sams, Chris Green, Arjun Nair, Gurinder Sandhu, Brendan Doggett.
Brisbane Heat
Mitchell Swepson has been released from Australia’s Test squad and is available to play this game for the Heat. He is expected to replace Jack Prestwidge in the XI. Meanwhile, Sam Heazlett is yet to recover completely from illness and hasn’t been considered for selection. Cameron Gannon has replaced him in the 13-man squad.
As far as the rest of the team is concerned, Banton, Bryant and Lynn should take up the responsibility of scoring more runs consistently. While Renshaw has been doing his all-round job well Cutting is yet to come up with a convincing show. Swepson, Zahir, Laughlin and Lalor look after the bowling department along with Steketee.
Probable XI: Tom Banton, Max Bryant, Chris Lynn, Matt Renshaw, Ben Cutting, Jimmy Peirson, Mark Steketee, Josh Lalor, Mitchell Swepson, Zahir Khan, Ben Laughlin.
