The first weekend of the Big Bash League (BBL) will see the remaining two teams also begin their campaign in a doubleheader. While the Hobart Hurricanes will face the Brisbane Heat, the Sydney Sixers will play their tournament opener against the Perth Scorchers. The Sixers ended up the last season at the fifth position and would be looking make amends this time around.

Sixers will be led by the experienced Moises Henriques as he will be hoping for his troops to get going from the word go. The team doesn’t have any big name in their line-up but the utility players can do the job for them in the shortest format and this is where they might surprise other teams this season.

As far as the Scorchers are concerned, the table toppers of the last edition didn’t get off to a great start to their campaign. Their batting disappointed a lot and ended up putting a below-par total on the board. The bowlers tried to make a meal out of that score as well but their opposition kept their nerve and got over the line. An immediate improvement with the willow is needed for them.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Sydney is generally good for batting even as the spinners come into play as the game progresses. But the conditions in the city will remain the cloudy whole day. There are close to 30 percent chances of rain during the match timings while it only increases as the day progresses which might threaten both the matches on the day to either be washed out or it will be a shortened game.

Team Combinations

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers have announced the 13-man squad for this game. Joe Denly and Josh Phillipe will most probably open the innings while Dan Hughes, the skipper Henriques and Jordan Silk will follow them. Jack Edwards is a decent all-rounder and even Tom Curran is a no mug with the bat and can hurt the opposition. The bowling attack is even stronger for them with the likes of Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis and Steve O’Keefe leading the way.

Probable XI: Moises Henriques (C), Dan Hughes, Josh Philippe, Joe Denly, Jordan Silk, Jack Edwards, Sean Abbott, Tom Curran, Ben Dwarshuis, Steve O’Keefe, Dan Fallins/Lloyd Pope.

Perth Scorchers

The Scorchers’ skipper Mitchell Marsh won’t be available for this game as he has joined the Australian Test team. Ashton Turner will lead the team while Will Bosisto, Marsh’s replacement will walk into the playing XI it seems. He was in great form in the Premier Cricket with scores of 111, 83 and 66 in the past three games. The rest of the line-up which played their season opener might remain the same.

Probable XI: Michael Klinger, Sam Whiteman, David Willey, Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Turner (c), Will Bosisto, Ashton Agar, Jason Behrendroff, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jhye Richardson/Usman Qadir, Andrew Tye.

Probable Top Performers

Joe Denly – Sydney Sixers | Ashton Agar – Perth Scorchers
