BBL 9: Sydney Thunder sign Chris Morris for the upcoming season; James Vince returns to Sixers

English batsman James Vince and South African all-rounder Chris Morris will be featuring in Big Bash League (BBL) 2019-20 after signing deals with their respective teams. Vince who has represented his country in all formats and was the part of 2019 World Cup-winning squad. He played his last ODI for England against Australia in July. Now, in the upcoming BBL season, Vince has re-signed a new deal with the Sydney Sixers.

The English top-order batsman had played for Sydney Sixers in the last season, who came as a replacement for his fellow England international Joe Denly and impressed in the limited appearances. In his last season, he featured in 8 matches for them and managed to get 268 runs at an average of 33.50.

James Vince looked quite happy after signing the deal and is looking forward to helping the club improve on last summer’s semi-final appearance in the new five-team finals format. “I’m delighted to be returning to the Sixers for BBL season nine. My family and I were made to feel very welcome at the Sixers and had a wonderful time living in Sydney. The SCG is an amazing stadium to play at and we had some great support their last season. I look forward to more of the same this season,” Vince said as quoted by Business Standard.

Morris signs deal with Sydney Thunder

In the meantime, Sydney Thunder have signed Chris Morris for BBL-9. The South African all-rounder has featured in as many as 23 T20I matches for his country. He has also been playing alongside Vince, who recently signed for Sydney Sixers for Hampshire in England in recent months.

The coach of Sydney Thunder, Shane Bond was delighted with the signing of Morris and highlighted the impact the all-rounder has made in the shortest format across the various T20 leagues. “I’m looking forward to welcoming his personality and competitiveness to the team as well.” Shane Bond said as quoted by ESPN.

Morris might not be available for Sydney Thunder in their opening matches due to his commitments with Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in the Mzansi Super League (MSL) in South Africa. The MSL final is set for December 16, and the Thunder play the opening game of the BBL on December 17 in Brisbane. Morris’ early availability will be tested further given the Thunder play three matches in the first five days of the tournament.
