It's a tough task for the board an arduous task as Shakib himself admitted the mistake.

Shakib Al Hasan, the premier Bangladesh all-rounder, has recently been handed a backdated two-year suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The southpaw accepted his mistake and will now be working with the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) in their programme in order to make sure that the others don’t commit the same error and remain vigilant about such matters.

Amidst the storm, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is thinking about taking legal action to lessen the Jessore-born’s suspension period. The same will be an arduous task as Shakib himself admitted the mistake of failing to report three instances of him being approached for corrupt practices. But the BCB will be trying their level best to get Shakib out of the muddle at the earliest.

“The board has very little scope to do anything about the situation. The term has entered into an agreement as Shakib Al Hasan acknowledged his failure to report the corrupt approaches. But we have already talked to our legal section in order to have some fact findings whether it is possible to work out legally or not,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury was quoted as saying in BDcrictime.

Shakib may also be removed from BCB’s central contract

Shakib’s ban has meant that he might be moved out from the central contract of the BCB in the running fiscal year. However, the BCB don’t want to rush any decision and reckons that an ‘elaborate discussion’ is required to come to a conclusion.

“I think it is not suitable to make any comment right at this moment. Just a couple of days have passed since the outcome. We will have to discuss thoroughly with board members. Any decision regarding the issue will need elaborate discussion,” Chowdhury added.

If the BCB somehow manages to reduce the ban period, Shakib may also be seen playing the T20 World Cup in Australia, chances of which are remote. The 2020 mega event will get underway on October 18 and Shakib’s suspension ends on October 29.

Shakib was the skipper on the upcoming tour of India. But on the day of his suspension, the BCB announced a revamped squad, giving Mahmudullah and Mominul Haque, the T20I and Test captaincy respectively. The tour gets underway on Sunday, November 3.
