As they did for the job of the chief coach for the India team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put out an invitation for the selector’s post that will be up for grabs in the next month. The board has also gone on to include a few ground rules for the streamlining of the application with the last application to be entertained only on the 14th of September. One of the rules, in this case, states that the applicant must be less than 60 years of age.

The current selection committee consists of former India players Saba Karim, Vikram Rathour, and Sandeep Patil with the latter being appointed as the chairman of the committee. They took over in 2012, meaning that their four-year tenure has indeed come to an end. Former cricketers Gagan Khoda and MSK Prasad also served on this committee.

While there is a very clear age restriction in place for the committee, it seems somewhat clear that there are also some other ground rules in place. Anyone who applies for the role must have played Test cricket for India in the past or should have played at least 50 First-class matches. Reports also go on to suggest that the junior selectors must have played in excess of 50 First-Class matches for the country with international experience not mandatory for these roles.

The board also went on to make it clear that a selector who has already served his term of four years will not be eligible for the post, thereby ruling out Patil, Rathour, Khoda, Prasad, and Karim. The BCCI also has a hard clause on conflict of interest stating that anyone applying for the role must not be affiliated with any Cricket academy or a team in the Indian Premier League.

The BCCI has also taken the ‘conflict of interest ruling’ one step further by stating that an applicant must not be affiliated with franchise-based league anywhere in the world. One of the final clauses states that the selector should have retired 5 years prior to the application for the position.
