The India-Pakistan cricketing ties have gone bad to worse over the course of last few months. The PCB has filed a case against the BCCI of not respecting the Future Tour Programme (FTP) due to which the PCB has to bear a huge loss. PCB chief Najam Sethi is not ready to give up in finding out the solution of the ongoing tussle between the two boards.

The ICC has appointed a body to look into the matter and Sethi feels that they need to check out a couple of points to get a resolution in the dispute. “So the two issues before the tribunal are – there is a contract that India has to honour and if there is a contract, what is the claim for damages?,” said Sethi ahead of the ICC meeting which happened yesterday in Kolkata.

India yet to lodge their response in the matter: Sethi

Talking about the dispute, Sethi further said that while Pakistan has already submitted their written report, Indians are yet to submit their report. Sethi though is hopeful of having the position of India revealed in a couple of months. “Currently, the situation is we have submitted our preliminary position in writing, the Indians have not yet submitted their position in writing. They are still looking at our position and asking various questions.

But I think within the next month or so the Indian point of view will also be available,” said Sethi. As per Sethi, the tribunal board which was assigned by the ICC has said that once both the parties submit the paperwork, they will take a decision after 3 days of final submissions.

According to Sethi, the BCCI needing to take the government of India permission before playing Pakistan is not a perfect case. Sethi suggested that cricket and politics should not be mixed together. “We don’t take permission from the government. The ICC doesn’t want government interference in the affairs of cricket boards and in any case when you were signing these contracts if the government permission was such a major issue, you should have put it in the contract which you did not, so what is the problem?” said Sethi.

He also suggested that the issue is when the matches happen in India or Pakistan but according to Sethi, playing in UAE was the most viable option but BCCI keeps denying the same sighting government permission.
