He plays rough cricket is a tough competitor and likes to give the opponents everything back but he also honours the spirit of the sport. Ben Stokes is representing Rajasthan Royals and in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and in the 28th match of the league stage he put in a brilliant effort to get close to the ball for a catch but when he was not sure didn’t claim it.

It was the first ball of the 8th over of Sunrisers Hyderabad innings, RR had brought in New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi and he was bowling at SRH’s English opener Alex Hales who was incidentally playing his first match in the league as well. It was a half volley and Hales hit it hard and flat.

The ball was flying in the midwicket region and running in from deep midwicket position Stokes dived in to take the catch. He did gather the ball and the crowd cheered for the home team but the all-rounder denied them that and clarified that he hadn’t taken the catch clean. He didn’t even claim it and told the umpires he had grassed the balls.

Hales had a really good game and he went on to score 45 from 39 balls. On the other hand, Stokes bowled a decent spell and finished with figures of 3-0-20-0. The Sunrisers batsmen had another ordinary game after posting two low totals in their last two matches. On the back of skipper Kane Williamson’s half century and Hales’ knock, they posted 151/7 in their share of 20 overs.

Stokes hasn’t been at his best this time around and has struggled to deliver both with the bat and ball. RR had a lot of expectations from the player they bought with the highest bid in the auction and will hope he peaks at the right time in the tournament.
