Jos Buttler’s opening partner Devdutt Padikkal also gave him some much-needed confidence on this occasion with his delightful strokeplay and played a great supporting knock to perfection. The youngster managed to roar back to form with his first half-century of the season. The southpaw scored a 35-ball 54 before being dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed in the 16th over but not before the duo had added 155 runs for the opening stand.

Buttler was batting on 99 when Padikkal lost his wicket and he ensured that he eased off the pressure in the very same over while reaching his personal milestone. On the penultimate delivery of that over, the England limited-overs specialist flicked one to the deep mid-wicket for two runs and successfully breached the three-figure mark. He reached his century off just 57 balls much to the delight and a round of applause from the spectators as well as the Rajasthan Royals dugout.

Meanwhile, this was also the explosive opener’s third century of this season and a second consecutive one. After getting to his 100, Buttler did not show any signs of complacency and carried on with his momentum in the death overs. He added 47 runs for the second wicket along with skipper Sanju Samson before eventually being dismissed by pacer Mustafizur Rahman on the final delivery of the penultimate over.

Jos Buttler scored 116 runs from 65 balls including nine fours and as many sixes at a strike rate of 178.5 that powered the Royals to a mammoth 222/2.
