Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) is going through a bad phase currently due to the financial issues the board is facing. Even their first choice players opted not to play in the T20I tri-series against Australia and Pakistan and then the five-match ODI rubber against the latter team. However, they have been jolted with yet another blow as the young fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has put his international career on hold.

This is not the first time that a Zimbabwe cricketer has given up on his international career. Earlier, Brendon Taylor had left the country citing financial issues after scoring a brilliant century against India in 2015 ICC World Cup. He featured for Nottinghamshire for a couple of years. However, he came back after ICC’s new financial model was approved. But their problems haven’t finished and once again are facing the crunch.

ZC confirms the news

The official Twitter handle of ZC confirmed the news of Muzarabani has opted to pursue different options to play in England. The youngster has been the shining light recently for them and has been bowling well continuously after making his international debut last year. Ever since making it to the national side, the 21-year-old was a regular in the line-up.

Muzarabani represented his country in 18 ODIs, 6 T20 Internationals and a solitary Test match. He scalped 18 wickets in the 50-overs format and 9 wickets in the shortest format and was being looked at as a long-term prospect for Zimbabwe. Things have gone from bad to worse for them after failing to qualify for the ICC World Cup earlier this year which Zimbabwe hosted.

They are scheduled to tour South Africa for 3 ODIs and as many T20Is in the last week of September after which Bangladesh will host them for three 50-over encounters and a couple of Test matches.
