Rohit Sharma once again showed that he is the best ODI opener in the world right now with a stunning knock in the second game against West Indies. India had their back against the wall before the start of the game. The visitors had stunned the hosts by eight wickets in the series-opener in Chennai. Consequently, India needed to win the second game at all cost to keep the three-match series alive.

And when West Indies invited India to bat first, Rohit Sharma rose to the occasion like he usually does. The right-handed batsman, who scored a record five centuries in the World Cup this year, came up with a Man of the Match effort to propel India to a series-clinching win. Rohit scored 159 as India crushed the visitors by 107 runs to draw level in the series.

Rohit added 227 runs with fellow opener KL Rahul to lay the foundation for a big total. The likes of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant then scored some quick runs to help the Men in Blue post a mammoth total of 387 for 5. In reply, West Indies started their chase well but suffered a middle-order collapse to be all out for 280 in the 44th over.

“I have said it many a times, once you get past your 100, you should bat as long as possible. As long as a set batter is out, you can get how much ever you want. I have played 200 plus ODIs, it is my responsibility to get as many runs as I can for the team,” said Rohit after the game.

Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai to a record four IPL titles

There is no denying the fact that Rohit Sharma is the most popular cricketer right now in Mumbai. The reasons for the same are pretty obvious. Rohit has not only made the city proud with his exploits in international cricket but also in IPL. In the last seven seasons of Indian Premier League, Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians to a record four IPL titles.

And hence, when he was in Mumbai for the third T20I against West Indies, the fans made sure to make the day special for him. A video of fans calling Rohit Borivali ka don kaun – Rohit, Rohit (who is the don of Borivali – Rohit, Rohit) has gone viral on the internet. Rohit enjoyed that reception from the fans and made it clear with his reaction.

Here is a video of that incident:
