Waqar Younis was a dreaded name during his prime. He was fiery fast during his early days and not one batsman looked comfortable against him in favourable conditions. The 3rd Test between Pakistan and New Zealand in 1990 was one such example where the right-arm fast bowler wrecked havoc on the opposition. After opting to bowl first, visitors took advantage of the seaming conditions and rolled up the hosts for just 102 in the first innings (their lowest in Tests against New Zealand) with Chris Pringle snapping 7/52 in his impeccable spell of swing bowling.

Pakistan, in reply, unleashed Waqar Younis at the opposition who returned with 7/76, bowling out New Zealand for 217 in the first innings. The 3rd innings saw Pakistan post 357 on the board with the help of Shoaib Mohammad’s century. Needing 243 to win, the visitors were reduced to 28/3 by Aaquib Javed before Younis came in and registered another five-wicket haul, taking 5/54 to ensure an easy win and also claim every batsman from the opposition in a single match.
