The Dhaka Platoon are high on confidence after they beat the Rajshahi Royals by 74 runs in Mirpur. Placed third in the points table in the BPL 2019-20, Mashrafe Mortaza’s men are in with a chance of even claiming the top spot. Their next match is against the Khulna Tigers in the first of Friday’s doubleheader in Sylhet. If they win by a fair margin, then the Platoon may also top the points table.
The Tigers, on the other hand, are in decent enough form as well. Mushfiqur Rahim and Co have won back-to-back encounters versus Rangpur Rangers and Sylhet Thunder. They are now placed second in the table with 10 points from seven matches. The Tigers will be a little concerned since they haven’t been consistent enough against the teams in the top half of the points table.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch in Sylhet was a tad on the slower side in the day game. The spinners got the ball to grip on the surface to a large extent. But batting wasn’t all that tough. Teams have preferred to field first and it shouldn’t change even next time around. The playing conditions will mostly be cloudy. The temperature will be around the 18 degrees Celsius mark with the humidity in the high 80s and 90s.
Ahmed Shehzad and Faheem Ashraf have joined the Platoon. Shehzad is likely to play the next game, replacing Luis Reece in the lineup. Faheem may also get a chance since Wahab Riaz may not be available for the Sylhet leg of the tournament. Tamim has been the Platoon’s standout batsman.
He has 293 runs at an average of 58.50. Asif Ali is in good rhythm after his 55* against the Royals. Mahedi Hasan and Anamul Haque’s role in the middle will be crucial. Hasan and Shadab Khan’s role with the ball will be critical as well. Mortaza and Hasan Mahmud are in great nicks with the leather.
Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque (wk), Ahmed Shehzad, Mahedi Hasan, Ariful Haque, Mominul Haque, Hasan Mahmud, Mashrafe Mortaza (C), Wahab Riaz/Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan
Hashim Amla has joined the Tigers squad. But he may not break into the eleven right away. The quartet of Rilee Rossouw, Najibullah Zadran, and Robbie Frylinck have been excellent with the bat in hand. Rossouw is the Tigers’ leading run-scorer, having notched 274 runs at an average of 54.80.
Mushfiqur has lent him good support with 216 runs at 54. Mehidy Hasan may not have gotten wickets, but the 87* he got last time would keep him in good stead. A lot will depend of Shahidul Islam, who is their leading wicket-taker with 12 wickets. Frylinck and Shafiul have also done well.
