The sixth and upcoming edition of the prestigious Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is scheduled to take place next year from January 5 to February 8, 2019. Previously, the event was listed to take place in November 2018, but during that time, the nation would be busy preparing itself for the General Elections. Hence, the T20 tournament was later postponed.

The player’s draft was earlier set to take place on October 25 but later was staged on October 28 at the grand ballroom of the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel of the capital. A total of 186 local and 368 foreign players went under the hammer. After all the bidding, the teams have already had their set of players. Previously, the team had also retained a few players.

The first season of the BPL took place in 2012. After the second season, the event was marred by match-fixing scandals owing after which the extravaganza made a return in 2016. The tournament is also set to mark the return of Bangladeshi batsman Mohammad Ashraful, who was a part of the scandal.

Dhaka are the most successful side with three title victories. Rangpur Riders won the event’s last edition, beating Dhaka Dynamites by 57 runs in the final at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. Chris Gayle was the Man of the Series last year. Mashrafe Mortaza’s Comilla Victorians won the event in 2015.
