On May 4, the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was postponed for an indefinite time by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Though the tournament was suspended just after 29 matches, the viewers were entertained with some stunning performances. On the basis of the performances delivered by various players, former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg came up with the Best XI of IPL 2021.

Starting with the opening pair, Hogg chose Delhi Capitals’ classy and explosive opening duo of Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan. Both Shaw and Dhawan were at their fluent best throughout the league and their blistering performance was the main reason behind DC’s success in IPL 2021. While Shikhar was the highest run-getter with 380 runs, Shaw is the fourth-highest run-scorer with 308 runs.

The third spot was occupied by Rajasthan Royal’s new skipper Sanju Samson. Contrary to the other seasons, Samson showed his some consistency in the 2021 edition. He thus managed to score 277 runs in seven matches at an average of 46.17. In a surprising turn of events, the Australian veteran named the young Rishabh Pant as the captain of his side.

Under the leadership of Rishabh, DC was proudly sitting at the top of the points table with six victories from eight games. As far as batting is concerned, the 23-year-old scored 213 runs in eight fixtures. Rishabh was followed by RCB’s wicketkeeper-batsman AB de Villiers.

Brad Hogg named Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran as two all-rounders of his eleven. Both Jadeja and Curran played their trade for Chennai Super Kings and impressed with their conduct with the bat and the ball. SRH’s Rashid Khan and Mumbai Indians’ Rahul Chahar found a place as two spinners on the side. As far as the pace attack is concerned, DC’s Avesh Khan and MI’s Jasprit Bumrah were included.
