'Can we get another Tendulkar?' - Ravi Shastri when asked about MS Dhoni's replacement

MS Dhoni is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. He is considered as once in a lifetime player to have graced Indian cricket. He drew curtains on his international career this year on Independence Day and shocked all the fans. Team India is busy grooming the players to have his replacement, but the required result has not fetched in for the team.

The Ranchi stalwart made a big name for himself in the world of cricket, and people lauded him all the way. Having bagged great achievements under his bag, he is the only captain to win all three ICC trophies. He might have felt that he has got everything the world cricket can offer and so he can leave the field peacefully. In the same light, Ravi Shastri feels that it’s very difficult to fill in Dhoni’s shoes.

The head coach of India added that finding a replacement for Dhoni is as difficult as finding a replacement for Sachin Tendulkar or Kapil Dev, which is practically impossible.

“Those are massive boots to fill. With the track record, he (Dhoni) has, he has gone down in history as one of our greatest cricketers. Not just as a keeper and a batsman but his record as captain. To find a replacement for him is like once Kapil Dev finished can we get a Kapil Dev? Till today, we haven’t found another Kapil Dev,” Shastri told Times Now.

“Can we get another Tendulkar? It’s not easy to get these kinds of players, but there is enough talent in the country, and it is up to the youngsters to grab the opportunity,” he added.

The name that he has made for himself is very difficult to achieve in a world where there is such stiff competition of skills. However, trusting his players, knowing their strengths, maintaining his calm made him different and unique of all. The way he handled the game will be a challenging task for any player or skipper when he takes the same amount of responsibility in times to come.
