Carlos Braithwaite has come to terms with “Remember the name” tag

With just two wins in their entire World Cup 2019 campaign, the whole Windies team will leave England feeling despondent. Particularly all-rounder, Carlos Brathwaite who played the innings of the tournament when he stroked a back to the wall century against New Zealand. Even with that valiant effort, he was not able to take the team to victory in a stiff run-chase of 292. After the conclusion of their journey, Carlos revealed how his World T20 2016 pyrotechnics changed him and how he was able to tackle its after effects.

The talented Barbadian is the current T20 captain of the national team. Brathwaite was the hero when the Caribbean side won its second World T20 title in India. On the night of 3rd April 2016, the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata witnessed the birth of a future Windies star but soon the dream vanished in space-time. He has constantly been rated very highly by his counterparts and his innings against Black Caps is an evidence of what he is capable of.

Once a boon, now a curse

In this World Cup, the 30-year-old had a much better outing as he concluded with 9 wickets and 154 runs in 8 games. He considers it the second chance to make his career a promising one as his T20 final heroics has entrapped him in the last couple of years.

Brathwaite has admitted that he was bogged down under the weight of expectations and had to seek the help of Sports psychologist, Steve Sylvester. He also said that now he has learned to live with the “Remember the Name” tag.

“I think it’s about firstly accepting the ‘Remember The Name’ tag,” Brathwaite was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. “I think I shied away from it a bit. I almost thought it was a curse. It was about accepting that what I did will be remembered for a long time, accepting that I had the privilege of doing it, you know just I guess adorn all the good messages, all the admiration I’ve received on the streets and on social media. Because when I do poorly there’ll be the other side as well. So I’ve accepted it and am actually comfortable to hear it again,” he added.
