The Australian continent has been ravaged with wild bushfires which had claimed over 40 lives and over a billion wild animals have perished in this unfortunate natural event. Millions of people have been displaced from their homes, which have burned down in fires and there are speculations that whole species of animals may have been rendered extinct.

Everyone is doing their bit to help out the firefighters in putting out the fire, including ‘The God’ Sachin Tendulkar himself. Donations have been pouring in from everywhere with not only Australian celebrities, but international celebs contributing to the noble cause. Cricket which is one of the most popular modes of entertainment in the country has done its bit with legendary leg-spinner, Shane Warne, auctioning his baggy green Test cap and raising well over AUD 1 million.

Sachin Tendulkar hopes that Bushfire Cricket Bash will offer some respite to people and wildlife

Cricket Australia has also done their bit and has organized a charity cricket match dubbed the Bushfire Cricket Bash, which will be played on February 8 and will feature teams of Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne taking on each other. The relief match will take place ahead of the Big Bash final with the venue to be confirmed on January 31 after the Qualifier is played with the winning team hosting the final.

Alongside Ponting and Warner, Justin Langer, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Shane Watson, Alex Blackwell, and Michael Clarke have confirmed they will take part in the match. It was also revealed that cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar and Courtney Walsh will also participate in the match as coaches of the two teams, with Tendulkar helming Ponting’s team and Walsh coaching Warne’s team.

Ricky Ponting welcomed Sachin Tendulkar on board with a grateful message on Twitter which read, “How great is it to have @sachin_rt taking part in the Bushfire Cricket Bash and giving up his time to come out for the cause. Picked the right team to coach too!”

To this Sachin Tendulkar replied with grace and posted, “Chose the right team and more importantly the right cause my friend. Hope that the Bushfire Cricket Bash will offer some relief to the people and wildlife in Australia.”
