Ajinkya Rahane was having a topsy-turvy run in Test cricket over the last two years. Prior to the start of India’s two-match series versus the West Indies, he scored a century way back in 2017 against Sri Lanka. The Mumbai batsman also didn’t have the best of outings, representing Hampshire in the County Championship. However, he was at his very best in the Caribbean Islands.

India won the series 2-0 and one of the reasons behind their thumping show was Rahane himself. The right-hander notched 271 runs at an average of 90.33. The right-handed batter was also the second highest run-scorer of the series after Hanuma Vihari, who ended with 289 runs at an average of 96.33. In the first innings of the opening Test in Antigua, he missed out on a ton.

But he managed to make amends, having notched 102 runs in the second innings. Virat Kohli and Co churned out a 318-run victory at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Rahane got only 24 runs in the first innings of the second Test at the Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. At the start of the second innings, he had a lucky escape as in the very first ball he faced, he got an inside edge off Kemar Roach.

However, he rode his luck and notched an unbeaten 64. The visitors won the game by 257 runs. Most importantly, India went to the top of the points table with 120 points in the ICC Test Championship. It was undoubtedly was a proud moment, both for Rahane and the Indian team.

Expressing his glee and jubilation on the dominating performance, Rahane took to Twitter and wrote, “Nothing better than contributing to team’s win. Delighted to win the series,”

In the meantime, Ravi Ashwin, the Indian off-break bowler took it as a chance to troll Rahane in a rather hilarious manner. He replied to Rahane’s tweet and wrote, “Are you up jinx?? Coffee??”

Here is Ashwin’s reply

Ashwin has been a linchpin of the Indian Test team for quite a while and he also has an excellent record versus the West Indies. In fact, all his four Test centuries came versus the Caribbean side. Unfortunately, he didn’t get to play a single game while Ravindra Jadeja was preferred ahead of him.
