Pakistan can find themselves in trouble during the upcoming England series if fast-bowler Mohammad Aamir finds it tough to recover from the injury which he sustained during their clash against Ireland who plays their first-ever Test match. Amir returned to the pavilion mid-way during the third day’s play at Malahide.

Old injury resurfaced: Mahmood

Amir could only bowl 3.2 overs in the second innings which saw fielders slipping two chances off his bowling, giving life to the openers Ed Joyce and captain William Porterfield who try to bring the Irish side back in the game after their shaggy first innings performance. Amir had removed two Ireland batsman in the first innings which included the wicket of Irish skipper William Porterfield whose stumps were shattered by Amir’s delivery.

Pakistan’s bowling coach Azhar Mahmood showed his concern over Amir’s injury. Mahmood suggested that it was his old left knee injury which resurfaced yet again to trouble the left-arm. Interestingly, after facing the long suspension from cricket, Amir made a superb return to cricket.

Need to manage his workload

The bowling coach felt that Amir has played all the formats ever since he has made a return to the national side. Mahmood added that the regular injuries are indications that the board needs to find out a solution for the work-load.

“Unfortunately, he came back after five years and since he came back he has played every format for us. We have to manage his workload as well so maybe that’s a sign for us to in the future to see where he stands,” said the former Pakistan all-rounder.

Mahmood was of the thought that the bowler will make a return on the fourth day of the match. “Hopefully, he will be ok tomorrow to bowl for us. He’s having treatment and hopefully tonight we will do a bit more treatment, tomorrow morning, ice as well, so he will be fine,” said the 43-year old Mahmood.

With Ireland having notched up a fighting opening stand after following on, It will be interesting to see If the 26-year old will return to shine for his side.
