Veteran pacer Umesh Yadav is hopeful of making a comeback in India’s white-ball teams with an impressive show in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The 34-year-old will serve Kolkata Knight Riders this season, who bought him for his base price of INR 2 crore in the mega auction. Notably, Umesh last played a white-ball game for India back in 2019. He has been out of contention since then with India producing one quality fast bowler after another.
Moreover, the speedster had a hard time in the last few IPL seasons as well. Nonetheless, the right-arm pacer has been working on his game and is determined to play white-ball cricket for India again. He even believes that a good show in IPL 2022 can earn him a spot in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup, which will take place later this year in Australia.
I am hoping to play as many games for KKR as possible: Umesh Yadav
He’s also optimistic about featuring in the ODI World Cup next year. “This is a great thing that happened to me that I joined KKR again. I am hoping to play as many games for KKR as possible and send out a message that I am a white-ball cricketer too. If I do well, I am sure the selectors will look at me and give me the chance once again in limited-overs cricket,” Umesh was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
“I am hopeful of making the cut for the T20 World Cup this year and next year’s ODI World Cup as well,” he added. Umesh further said that he doesn’t want to be tagged as a red-ball specialist and wants to prove that he can play white-ball games as well.
“We need opportunities and chances in white-ball cricket to perform. So, there won’t be any specific perception and players are not tagged as red-ball or white ball specialists. If you are not getting opportunities in white ball cricket, how will you prove yourself?,” he added.
