The head coach of the Indian cricket team Ravi Shastri took to his Twitter handle to congratulate Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma for winning their individual honours. Ace batsman and opener Rohit won the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, while Ishant was conferred with the Arjuna Award.

Players along with respective teams have already left for UAE for the 13th edition of IPL commencing next month. Also keeping the COVID-19 situation in mind, the award ceremony will be held virtually on the 29th of August.

The Mumbai Indians skipper received the highest sporting honour of the country, which has only been won by only three Indian players so far. Rohit became the 4th person from the Indian squad to lift the honour after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, recently retired star MS Dhoni, and current Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Amid this, Ravi Shastri came up with an energetic post wishing the duo and captioned it as– “Congratulations! The SHARMAAAAAS- Well done Ro for Khel Ratna and Ishi for Arjuna.”

Ishant Sharma was awarded Arjuna Award along with Deepti Sharma who is an Indian women cricket team’s legend all-rounder.

Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma will be representing their respective sides in IPL 2020

The vice-captain of Men in Blue for the limited-overs game has landed in UAE along with his teammates. He was seen posing with beautiful wife Ritika and baby daughter Samaira after reaching the Gulf country. He will begin his training session after a mandatory quarantine period of 7 days to flaunt his class in the upcoming season. Under the able guidance of Sharma for years, Mumbai Indians have already walked off with 4 IPL trophies and will be eyeing their 5th one this season.

Being consistent for years in the IPL, Ishant Sharma, on the other hand, will continue his journey with Delhi Capitals. Walking under Shreyas Iyer and having great players along their side, DC will also strive hard to bring home their maiden IPL trophy.

Alongside Rohit Sharma, Mariyappan T. (Para-Athletics), Manika Batra (Table Tennis), Vinesh Phogat (Wrestling) and Rani Rampal (Hockey) will be conferred with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award this year.
