Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots squared off in the match 23 of the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Both the teams had the chance to climb up in the points table with a victory in this game. But very few had anticipated for the Dwayne Bravo storm to arrive at the Warner Park. The skipper of the visitors went on to smack five consecutive sixes off Alzarri Joseph in the penultimate over and propelled his team’s score dramatically.

The home side won the toss and opted to field first. The decision proved to be a good one as the openers Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine were dismissed early. The duo of Brendon McCullum and Colin Munro resurrected the innings then with a decent partnership. But the run-rate was never threatening the Patriots. However, Bravo stepped out to bat in the 17th over and the things changed soon.

Bravo storm hits Patriots

After 18 overs, the Knight Riders had scored 151 runs with Munro off the strike and must have definitely hoped for Dwayne Bravo to take a single off the first ball. Alzarri Joseph was handed over the ball who had given only 13 runs in his three overs until then with two crucial wickets to his name. Staying true to his reputation he bowled a dot ball first up to increase the pressure on the batsman.

However, what followed was a carnage. The next ball was fired full around the middle and leg-stump which Bravo tonked over the bowler’s head by clearing his front leg. He was in the zone now and played his favourite chip shot over covers next up which also crossed his ropes. Then he chose to flick the fuller length delivery over the square-leg fence. Joseph, by now, was out of ideas on how to bowl to Bravo.

The fourth consecutive six reminded every one of Yuvraj Singh’s assault over Stuart Broad in 2007. The under-pressure bowler delivered a short delivery outside the off-stump and Bravo carved it over the backward point. Finally, to make it five consecutive maximums in an over, he smacked the last ball over mid-wicket to leave Joseph distraught.

The assault helped the Knights post a mammoth total of 199 runs on the board and it eventually turned out to be a winning score as the Patriots fell short by 46 runs.
