CPL 2018: Oshane Thomas' in-swinging yorker shatters Shai Hope's woodwork

The ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has already witnessed some exciting moments. The records are being shattered at will both with the bat and ball. But during the game between Barbados Tridents and Jamaica Tallawahs, it was the stumps which were shattered thanks to Oshane Thomas. He bowled the peach of a delivery to Shai Hope who was beaten by sheer pace and had no option but to appreciate the bowler.

After being invited to bat first, the Tridents were dented by an early blow with Hashim Amla continuing to struggle in the shortest format. Hope walked in at number three and the team was hopeful of him stitching a decent stand with Martin Guptill. But Oshane had other ideas. He came on to bowl his second over and bowled a pacy in-swinging yorker to which the batsman had no answers.

The ball swung in the air and before Hope tried to adjust himself it had burst through his defences and disturb his furniture. Thomas had bowled one of the best deliveries of the tournament so far to leave the hosts reeling at 12/2 only in the third over of the innings.

What about the match?

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Guptill kept his cool and found his form at the right time. He accumulated runs at pace and went on to score 73 off 60 balls to propel his team’s total to 151 after 20 overs. The chase was going to be tricky for the visitors but it never threatened them. Mohammad Irfan who bowled a record spell only recently picked the wicket of Glenn Philips early but to no avail.

But it was Johnson Charles who batted aggressively at the top and scored a decent half-century after which Rovman Powell made sure that there were not many hiccups on the way. Eventually, the Tallawahs chased down the target with 16 balls and 5 wickets in hand.
