The Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) are on a bit of a role in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), winning their first five matches and staying atop the points table. After their seven-wicket victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Kieron Pollard and Co must be brimming with confidence. They are next set to lock horns with the Barbados Tridents in the first of Saturday’s doubleheader.
In their previous meeting, the Knights came out trumps by 19 runs. The Tridents, after the win in their opening game, lost three matches in a row. However, following their 36-run victory over the Jamaica Tallawahs, Jason Holder and Co must have breathed a sigh of relief. Barbados are currently placed third in the points table and another loss could put them in quite a bit of trouble going ahead.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at the Queen’s Park Oval has helped the spinners to a great extent. But it’s the team batting second, who have dominated. Out of the six games this season, the chasing teams have won five of them. In fact, in the three morning games, the chasing sides have won. There are minimum chances of rain. The temperature will be around 30 degrees Celsius with the humidity in the 60s.
Playing Combinations
Barbados Tridents
The Tridents was depending heavily on Johnson Charles and Jason Holder in the batting department. However, Kyle Mayers’ 85 against the Tallawahs has come as a breath of fresh air. Shai Hope has 95 runs to his name, but the strike-rate of 97.93 remains to be a matter of concern for the batting unit.
Corey Anderson also is in reasonable touch. In the bowling department, Rashid Khan has been the standout, picking up seven wickets. Mitchell Santner, skipper Holder and Raymon Reifer picked up four wickets each. But Hayden Walsh Jr needs to pull up his socks and play as per his potential.
Probable XI
Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (wk), Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder (C), Rashid Khan, Corey Anderson, Ashley Nurse, Mitchell Santner, Raymon Reifer, Nyeem Young, Hayden Walsh Jr
Trinbago Knight Riders
The Knights might bring back Sunil Narine in place of youngster Tion Webster. Narine was one of their key players in the first three games, delivering with both bat and leather. The left-handed duo of Darren Bravo and Colin Munro have been impressive with 147 and 133 runs respectively.
In bowling, Khary Pierre, Ali Khan and Dwayne Bravo will be in charge. Sikandar Raza isn’t the worst either. Tim Seifert hasn’t gotten many chances to bat, but he has grabbed the limited opportunities with both hands. Kieron Pollard has always been a brute force and a lot will depend on him as well.
Probable XI
Lendl Simmons, Tion Webster/Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Tim Seifert (wk), Kieron Pollard (C), Dwayne Bravo, Sikandar Raza, Khary Pierre, Fawad Ahmed, Ali Khan
