CPL 2021: Kieron Pollard and Tim Seifert run four with comical fielding display by Jamaica

Catches win matches is one of those phrases which over the years have become one of the more popular cliches in cricket. But taking high catches can be a difficult job. For boundary raiders, taking some catches can be extremely difficult and in the heat of the moment, mistakes can be made. Something similar happened during one match in the Caribbean Premier League 2021. 

In the 19th game of the tournament which is known to give a thrill to the audience, there was a contest going on between Trinbago Knight Riders and Jamaica Tallawahs. In the first innings of the match, TKR were batting on 104 for 3 after 17 overs in the game. But from the next two overs, they were able to collect 14 and 21 runs to go into the last over with some momentum. 

While the three balls saw two big sixes by TKR captain, Kieron Pollard, it was the fourth delivery that saw some drama unfold. The ball delivered by Migael Pretorius was attempted to be launched yet again by Pollard but he just couldn’t find the timing. The ball went straight in the sky and Veerasammy Permaul went under the ball, only to drop the catch. 

The comedy of errors by Jamaica Tallawahs 

As he was taking some time in collecting the ball throwing back to the middle, Tim Seifert and Pollard both realized he wasn’t going to throw it soon as there wasn’t anyone backing up to the stumps. By this moment, the duo had already squeezed two runs but decided to run the third. Permaul missed the stumps as he went for a direct hit.

When the ball was headed to Pretorius, it changed its trajectory, confusing the bowler, who couldn’t stop it. The ball went past him as Seifert and Pollard ran another one run, which made their grand total of four runs by running in the middle of that ball, which should have been caught by Permaul in the first place. The over went for another 11 runs, totaling to 28 runs from six balls.

TKR ended on 167 for 4, having collected 63 runs from the last three overs. They bowled Tallawahs out for 92 all out and won the match by 75 runs.
