All the teams have started their preparations for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup, which is set to be hosted by Australia in October 2022. Continuing with the preparations, India will be hosting South Africa for a three-match T20I series starting September 28 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The two teams will be clashing for the third time this year, and it surely will be an intriguing contest.

The Men in Blue are in great form, and they will look to carry the winning momentum into the upcoming series. One player who is the talk of the town is former India skipper Virat Kohli, who bounced back to form during the Asia Cup 2022 and has managed to perform consistently since. While the ace batter continues to pile up runs, he is also close to breaking a few records of the current skipper Rohit Sharma.

Let us look at three of Rohit Sharma’s records that Virat Kohli can break during the T20I series against South Africa-

  1. Most half-centuries vs South Africa

Virat Kohli has scored the most half-centuries in the 20-over format, as he took the tally to 33 with his knock against Australia in the third and final T20I of the recently concluded three-match series, which helped the Men in Blue win the series and lift the trophy.

Of the 33, he has two against South Africa, which is equal to Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan’s record too, as the two opening batters have also scored two fifties against South Africa. If Kohli bags a half-century in the upcoming series, before Rohit Sharma manages to do so, he’ll hold the record for the most half-centuries against South Africa.

Notably, Sharma also has a century against the Proteas, while Kohli only has two half-centuries. There are high chances of Kohli breaking the record and surpassing Sharma in this section as he is in great touch currently.
