The defending champions England got a nine-wicket hammering at the hands of New Zealand in the inaugural game of the World Cup 2023 played at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The massive defeat exposed the frailty of the Jos Buttler-led side. Following this loss, the English team will now travel to Dharamsala to face Bangladesh.
Buttler and his men won’t take the Bangla side lightly as the Shakib Al Hasan-led team has the capability to turn the tables against any quality side in this tournament. For England, the defeat against the Kiwi side is a wake-up call and before the match against Bangladesh, they will look to do some reforms to overcome their shortcomings.
Here are the three changes England should make to extract positive results in their next clash
3. Liam Livingstone up the order and Moeen Ali as the finisher
In the maiden World Cup 2023 contest, Moeen Ali failed to be impactful with his bat. After the loss of three quick scalps, the left-handed batter walked in the middle to support Joe Root, who was looking stable at the crease. In the crunch situation, Moeen looked shaky and capitulated on 11 after facing 17 deliveries.
While Liam Livingstone put up a decent show with his bat in the lower middle order. He came at number seven and scored 20 off 22, with three fours. In the next game against Bangladesh, the England team should task Moeen to bat in the lower middle order and promote Livingstone in the batting line-up.
Moeen has the potential to take bowling units to the cleaners in death overs. The veteran’s batting numbers are excellent in the number seven position. In 69 innings, he has notched up 1219 runs with a century and three fifties. These numbers prove that Moeen can be more effective in the team as a finisher.
