England and New Zealand clashed in the opening match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first and their decision paid off with an early wicket, but Joe Root's resilience anchored England's innings. Despite regular setbacks, a promising partnership between Root and Jos Buttler hinted at a massive score. However, Matt Henry and Trent Boult's return to the attack changed the game, dismissing Buttler and other English batters to disrupt England's flow.

England ended up making 282 runs for the loss of nine wickets, thanks largely to Root's 77 runs. Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner were the pick of the Kiwi bowlers, claiming five wickets between them.

New Zealand's chase began on a poor note, but Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra took control. Conway's explosive 152 not out and Ravindra's amazing 123 sealed a dominant nine-wicket win for New Zealand. Rachin's classy innings earned him the man of the match award as well.

The 23-year-old southpaw took just 96 balls to showcase brilliance in batting and outclassed all of England's bowlers. 11 fours and 5 textbook sixes were the highlights of Ravindra's match-winning innings. Conway was at his instrumental best as well. The 32-year-old led New Zealand's batting charge and made a mockery of the run chase.

In just 121 balls, Conway played a brilliant inning of 152 runs and won New Zealand that match with 82 balls to spare. The cricketing world was understandably amazed at the batting of both New Zealand players. The match also was a huge slap on innumerable analysts who had predicted New Zealand to do poorly in the tournament. Soon social media was buzzing with memes around New Zealand's statement win as well as England's misery.
