3. Temba Bavuma

South African skipper Temba Bavuma is going through a tough period in his career. His flop show in the India tour raised questions about his capability as a batter but in the World Cup, he had an opportunity to prove his critics wrong by shutting their mouths by hoarding big scores in the games. But for Bavuma, the tournament went as a nightmare because of the continuation of his poor run with the bat.

As a captain, it was imperative for Bavuma to play some classy innings to boost the confidence of other players in the team to win the trophy. But in the tournament, his contribution was minimal as he accumulated only 70 runs with an average of 17.50.

In the final group game, the situation got worse for the South African captain as his team crashed out of the competition by facing a shocking defeat at the hands of the Netherlands and it was very much due to the slow innings from him (20 runs off 20 deliveries) and De Kock (13 off 13 deliveries). Pursuing a target of 159, both the players failed to deliver a rapid start, which led to the collective failure of the batting line-up and also the vanquishing of The Proteas at the hands of the Dutch by 13 runs.
