With the Asia Cup 2025 in its business end, batting heroics and bowling brilliance have often grabbed headlines. However, work behind the stumps from the wicketkeepers has often made the difference. The defending champions, India, have been criticised for their poor fielding, but Bangladesh have stood out for their sharpness, led by their captain and first-choice wicketkeeper Litton Das.
Litton Das behind stumps
Das has been Bangladesh’s important member in this tournament, not just as skipper or a batter but also as the most efficient wicketkeeper so far. From just four innings, he has already effected five dismissals, all of catches, and has an average of 1.25 dismissals per innings, the best among keepers in the Asia Cup 2025. The other keepers, like Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis and Pakistan's Mohammad Haris, have needed five matches to reach the same tally
His best performance came against Sri Lanka in Dubai, where he grabbed two catches. Notably, Litton’s contribution has been more than just grabbing catches. His constant communication with bowlers, guiding them, and decision-making with DRS calls have kept Bangladesh’s attack lethal.

What makes Litton Das different?
What makes Das different from his peers is not just efficiency but impact. He has achieved the same number of dismissals as Mendis and Haris, but in fewer games. Moreover, as captain, he shoulders dual responsibilities, leading a team and focusing behind the stumps.
Furthermore, Kusal Mendis has matched his tally of five dismissals in as many games. For Pakistan, Mohammad Haris has also impressed with five dismissals in five innings. His best moment came against Sri Lanka, where he grabbed two catches. Haris also made a stumping against India.
India’s Sanju Samson has had a decent tournament behind the stumps with just three dismissals. Though he produced two catches against the UAE, the inconsistency in India’s overall fielding unit has overlooked his efforts. Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, with two dismissals in three innings, and Oman’s Vishal Shukla picked two catches in a single outing against India.
India's fielding in Asia Cup 2025
Fielding, particularly wicketkeeping, has been a differentiating factor in this Asia Cup. India, despite cruising into the final, has been affected by dropped catches, 12 in total, the most in the tournament.
