India’s Test history in England has seen many memorable knocks, but only three Indian batters have managed to score double centuries on English soil. The latest to join this elite list is current Indian Test captain Shubman Gill, who reached the milestone during the second Test of the 2025 series at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Gill continued his red-hot form in the series to score his maiden double century. While many batters have reached the 100-run mark, only a few have managed to double it.
Indian batters who scored double centuries in England:
3. Shubman Gill - 269 vs England at Edgbaston, 2025:

Shubman Gill registered his name in history books by becoming the third Indian batter to score a Test double-century on English soil. Coming into the second Test at Edgbaston after a century in the series opener at Leeds, Gill walked in at No. 4 and delivered yet another solid knock. Resuming Day 2 on 114*, he converted his overnight score into a magnificent double-hundred, his maiden in Test cricket.
His knock is now the highest score by an Indian in a men's Test in England. He also now holds the highest score by an Indian Test captain in England, overtaking Mohammad Azharuddin’s 179 from 1990. The right-handed batter's 203-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja and a stand with Washington Sundar has taken India over 500, and Gill is still unbeaten, hoping to take the total even deeper. He finally departed for 269 off 387 balls after putting India in a commanding spot.
