Thrillers and nail-biting contests have played a crucial role in popularising cricket. The success of the recent T20 World Cup 2022 is one of the best examples. By delivering some amazing close matches, this year's T20 World Cup proved that fans enjoy games in which the nerves of two teams are tested. While for cricketers, coming out victorious in these kinds of games becomes a challenge.

Talking about India's performance in thrillers in the One-Day format, the records show that the Men in Blue have pulled off the unthinkable many times, which includes the famous NatWest Trophy final win of 2002 also. On the other hand, the team has got a bitter experience too in close matches.

Back in 2009, chasing a target of 351 against Australia in an ODI game in Hyderabad, the Men in Blue lost the thriller by just three runs. Recently, a similar incident happened with Rohit Sharma and his men as they lost the contest by just one wicket. For fans, digesting this defeat by a narrow margin has become difficult as India at one time had that match in their grasp.

To discuss that fresh loss more, below are three instances when India lost by one wicket:

3. India vs Bangladesh in 2022 ODI series

Currently, India are touring Bangladesh for three ODIs and two Tests. In the first ODI played at Sher e Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, the Indian team was put to bat first. For Indian openers, there was a challenge of delivering a solid start to the team. With huge names such as Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, India were looking a formidable batting side.

But Shakib Al Hasan destroyed the Indian batting line-up using his experience and skills and picked up a sensational five-wicket haul. Shakib got support from the pacer Ebadot Hossain and Mehidy Hasan also who took four wickets and one wicket respectively to wrap up the Indian innings on 186 runs in 41.2 overs. In his five-wicket haul, he also picked up the wickets of Rohit and Kohli.

Chasing the target of 187, Bangladesh were rocked early with Deepak Chahar dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto off the very first delivery. After the first blow, Litton Das and Anamul Haque took the innings ahead slowly but Mohammad Siraj built more pressure on the hosts with the wicket of the latter. After the fall of the second wicket at the score of 26, Das and Shakib stitched a 48-run partnership.

But with the departure of Das on 41 and Hasan on 29, India came back into the game, and to get more control over it, the Men in Blue picked up wickets in regular intervals. Having picked up nine wickets for just 136 runs, India were expected to win comfortably but Mehidy Hasan Miraz, with Mustafizur Rahman, stitched an unbeaten 51-run partnership for the tenth wicket to hand an unforgettable one-wicket defeat to India.
