When bowlers take hat-tricks in One Day Internationals (ODIs), it becomes one of the most memorable moments for them. Sri Lanka legend Lasith Malinga, by taking a hat-trick thrice in ODIs, has crafted his own league and no other bowler has been able to achieve the same fate till now.

In ODIs, there have been 49 instances when a hat-trick has been claimed. In 1982, former Pakistan cricketer Jalal-ud-Din was the first bowler to grab a hat-trick and he achieved the feat against Australia.

Kuldeep Yadav was the last player to grab the record in men's international cricket against the West Indies in 2019. Of these 49 occasions, there have been five instances when Bangladesh bowlers have also set the stage on fire by clinching a hat-trick.

Below are five Bangladesh bowlers who have claimed a hat-trick in ODIs:

5. Taijul Islam vs Zimbabwe in 2014, Mirpur

Bangladesh were facing Zimbabwe at home in a five-match ODI series during November-December, 2014. By assaulting the visiting side in the first four games, Bangladesh had made the tour really challenging for the tourists, and in the last game, the hosts were looking to register a clean sweep at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Winning the toss in the fifth ODI, Zimbabwe skipper Elton Chigumbura elected to bat first, but the Bangladesh bowlers since the start of the match looked energetic and aggressive and sent Sikandar Raza (9 runs) packing in the fifth over of the match.

Later, Hamilton Masakadza and Vusi Sibanda tried to bring Zimbabwe back into the game by scoring 52 and 37 respectively, but the debutant Taijul Islam with both Jubair Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan put in his best effort and forced Zimbabwe to falter.

Taijul destroyed the lower order of Zimbabwe by claiming a hat-trick and bagged the wickets of Tinashe Panyangara, John Nyumbu, and Tendai Chatara.

Taijul with his impressive performance became the first Bangladesh bowler to take a hat-trick on debut. With his brilliant figures of 4/11 in seven overs, Bangladesh accomplished their mission of sweeping the visitors in the series 5-0. The youngster also got the Player of the Match award for his majestic display.
