Afghanistan were able to restrict Bangladesh to 154/5 after a promising start to their innings. Tanzid Hasan (52 off 31) top-scored for the Tigers. However, none of the other batters could match Tanzid's tempo as the spin duo of Rashid Khan (2/26 in 4 overs) and Noor Ahmad (2/23 in 4 overs) impressed with the ball.

However, Afghanistan faltered in chase and were staring down the barrel at 77/5 in 13 overs. A quickfire 16-ball 30 from Azmatullah Omarzai provided some impetus to Afghanistan. However, some remarkable bowling by left-armers Nasum Ahmed (2/11 in 4 overs) and Mustafizur Rahman (3/28 in 4 overs) turned the tide towards their side.
