The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a tournament where we have seen some incredible performances with the bat. The highest achievement for the batter in the tournament is the Orange Cap, which is awarded to the highest run scorer of the season. There have been some great cricketers who have gone on to win the prestigious award in the tournament.
Though the winners of the Orange Cap over the years in the cash-rich tournament are well-known, it is time to discuss the current status of these players. It will be interesting to learn about what the players have done and what they are currently doing in their day-to-day lives after gaining the attention of the fans after their great performance in that respective season.
Let's look at the IPL Orange Cap winners and where they are now (2008 to 2024):
1. Shaun Marsh (2008) - Retired from international cricket

It was the inaugural season of the IPL, and the Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab or KXIP) were one of the top teams in the tournament. The best batter for the franchise was Australia's top-order batter Shaun Marsh, who lit up the season for the team, scoring 616 runs at an average of 68.44 and had a strike rate of 139.68. These performances officially made him the first orange cap winner in the tournament.
Speaking of Marsh’s current status within the cricketing scene, he was last seen in the 2023-24 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) playing his last game for the Melbourne Renegades. He is officially retired from all forms of cricket and has not featured in any game since January 2024. However, his younger brother Mitchell Marsh is currently playing and his having one of his best seasons in IPL 2025.
