In One-Day Internationals (ODIs), Bangladesh have emerged as one of the most dangerous sides for other teams, and in this significant development, their veterans have played their part efficiently with their performances. At the 2023 World Cup to be held in India, Bangladesh will rely on their old servants to do well in the competition.

It was witnessed in the last couple of World Cup editions that Bangladesh exuded confidence against quality teams and also succeeded in befuddling them. In the phenomenal success against the massive sides, Bangladesh’s experienced players gave their best utilising their skills and talent. In 2023, they will look to do the same in the marquee event as, for a few of them, this could be their last ODI tournament.

Here are four Bangladesh players who can retire from ODIs after the 2023 World Cup

4. Mahmudullah

In the current Bangladesh squad, Mahmudullah is one of the oldest players, as he is active in international cricket since 2007. Riding on his all-round talent, Bangladesh have bagged a lot of ODI matches in the last 16 years. Scoring 4950 runs in 218 ODIs at a strike rate of 76.17, he is the fourth-leading run-scorer for his team.

Back in the 2015 World Cup, the stylish Bangladesh stalwart ended up as the leading run-scorer for his team with 365 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 81.83. In his team’s memorable 15-run victory over England, he became the Player of the Match for his 103-run knock off 138 deliveries.

In his vast career, the 37-year-old has appeared in three World Cup editions so far, and the upcoming installment could be his last appearance in the marquee tournament. Noting his age, it could be speculated that Mahmudullah might hang up his boots from ODIs right after the 2023 World Cup.
