After Mashrafe Mortaza’s retirement from international cricket in March 2020, Tamim Iqbal took Bangladesh’s ODI captaincy mantle. Thus far, Iqbal’s performance has been decent as an ODI skipper. During his tenure, Bangladesh got success in winning their maiden One-Day series against South Africa in South Africa in March 2022.

In the 2023 World Cup, his responsibility will be to get the best out of his team. As the tournament will be played in India, where conditions are similar to his country, Tamim’s objective will be to help his team be impactful in the tournament with his leadership and batting skills.

In February 2023, Iqbal turned 34, and now, there will be no wonder if he retires from the longest white-ball cricket after the massive ODI event in India. Currently, the southpaw is the leading run-getter for Bangladesh in ODIs, scoring 8300 runs with 14 tons and 56 half-centuries in 240 ODIs at a strike rate of 78.57.
