The Indian Premier League (IPL) is widely regarded as one of the most challenging franchise tournaments in the sport. Since its establishment in 2008, it has consistently delivered unexpected outcomes, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. The element of unpredictability is often cited as a key factor in making the IPL, the premier tournament of its kind in the world.

Whether it's Chris Gayle's breathtaking 175-run innings in a T20 match or the shocking collapse of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a paltry 49 runs, the IPL has witnessed some truly remarkable moments. Even in the ongoing season, the tournament has lived up to its reputation for unpredictability, with unexpected twists and turns keeping fans thoroughly entertained.

In the 2023 edition of the league, the established players have managed to make a comeback, and the youngsters have been able to make a mark. The players give it all for their franchise, and hence, their price tag shoots up. Many players popped up and took the world by surprise, as not many had expected them to fire on all cylinders.

Let us have a look at the five players who have turned out to be a surprise package in the ongoing IPL season:

Yashasvi Jaiswal burst into the scene after scoring 400 runs for the India U-19 side during their World Cup campaign in 2020. His attacking approach and ability to find the gaps with ease meant he was under the spotlight for various franchises just before the 2020 season of the IPL. Thankfully, for the inaugural champions, Jaiswal was picked for INR 2.40 crore.

It was clear that the Royals had picked up Jaiswal as a long-term investment. However, during the first season. He was able to score just 40 runs in three innings. Later on, in the 2021 season of the IPL, he managed to score 249 runs with an impressive strike rate of 148.21.

In 2022, his efforts were overshadowed by Jos Buttler as Buttler was in the form of his life. However, in 2023, Jaiswal has already crossed the 300-run mark in a single edition of the IPL. With around 50 fours and 19 sixes, this is already his best season in the IPL. With Rajasthan being one of the most stable teams, Jaiswal is expected to play a big role in the team’s success.
